Ann Kinnear

Board of Trustees

I have an extensive career in midwifery – spanning several decades in practice, management and policy leadership. In my current role as Executive Officer of the Australian College of Midwives, I am responsible to support the College to fulfill its objectives, in particular to maximize the quality of midwifery and maternity care for Australian women and their families.

Previously, as the Principal Advisor Maternity Services to the NSW Department of Health Maternity and Child Health Unit, I facilitated a Commonwealth-State Indigenous Early Childhood Development National Partnership Agreement for over $27.6M in funding for increased access to secondary mental health and drug and alcohol services for clients of the Aboriginal Maternal and Infant Health Service and increase the sexual and reproductive health services for Aboriginal families.

I have a deep and abiding commitment to work with others to build an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander midwifery workforce that can improve the currently unacceptable Aboriginal perinatal mortality and morbidity rates. I know that providing accessible, culturally appropriate maternity services, with effective relationship based care provided by a known and trusted midwife is one strategy that will make a difference.I am honored and excited to be a part of the Rhodanthe Lipsett Indigenous Midwifery Charitable Fund Board.
